Ident training is committed to providing training to both aspiring & experienced dental nurses in order that they can register with the General Dental Council as dental care professionals. More importantly, we aim to provide the knowledge and training that allows nurses to be an asset to their practice and be ‘fit for purpose’.
We have developed a comprehensive training programme delivered in a wide range of formats:- weekly online classes, study guides, support tutorials and recorded classes. Course intake is April each year, with applications being taken throughout the year. Candidates are then placed on the waiting list for the next available intake. The qualification accredited by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA).
On successful completion of the course, the dental nurse will be fully qualified having achieved Level 3 SVQ in Dental Nursing and Professional Development Award in Dental Nursing.
The candidate requires to compile a portfolio of evidence from 11 SVQ Units and assessed for 4 PDA Units. Candidates will be observed remotely within the workplace, or by competence statements, provided by their clinician, to assess skills and abilities against the standards set by SQA The duration of the course is 12 months.
Candidates must be employed in a dental environment in order to gain the practical experience required.

ENTOA - Ensure your own actions reduce the risk to health& safety
OH1 - Prepare & maintain environments,instruments and equipment for clinical dental procedures
OH2 - Offer information and support to individuals on the protection of their oral health
OH3 - Provide chair side support during the assessment of patients’ oral health
OH4 - Contribute to the production of dental radiographs
OH5 - Provide chair side support during the prevention and control of periodontal disease and caries and the restoration of cavities
OH6 - Provide chair side support during the provision of fixed and removable appliances
OH7 - Provide chair side support during non surgical endodontic treatment
OH8 - Provide chair side support during the extraction of teeth and minor surgery
CHS36 - Provide basic life support
L&D10 - Reflect and develop your practice
The PDA provides evidence of the knowledge and understanding of the qualification. Each of the written assessments cover aspects of the above units.
